Abstract

Hospital branding has become a central factor in influencing patient choice decisions, especially in competitive and well-informed markets like the healthcare market in Tamil Nadu. A high brand equity in hospitals including such factors as brand awareness, reputation, and perceived quality of service, will have an impact on the patient perceptions even before the clinical interaction has been carried out. The literature demonstrates that brand image has a powerful influence on patient choice through improving the perceived quality of care, establishing trust, and creating loyalty that may cause patients to choose branded institutions even when there is no knowledge about less famous ones.

The use of digital marketing, patient-centric innovations in service and strategic communication in hospitals gradually turns into the standard practice in Tamil Nadu, as the hospitals attempt to position themselves uniquely and work on their brand awareness. This pattern is consistent with general evidence that hospitals that have clear and consistent branding will get more patients and lead to repeat visits. Recent health system reports emerging in India also highlight that patients have been using the reputational stimuli and certification to make choices about hospitals, and that they have been willing to pay a lot in terms of trustworthy and transparent conduct of clinical results.

This paper investigates the role of branding in patient decision-making in Tamil Nadu and provides information about the ways in which the brand factors inform choice decision-making as well as underscores the implications of the research to hospital administrators who may want to optimize their competitive positioning and patient interactions.
