Integrating Artificial Intelligence in English Language Teaching: Tools, Challenges, and Teacher Readiness

Abstract

With the advancement of science and technology, numerous reforms are made even in the education field. Even the emergence of English Language as a global language has led to reforms in English language teaching and learning. Apart from traditional method of teaching, integration of technology has made teaching and learning languages very creative and easy.  In the same lines, integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created a great impact in English Language Teaching (ELT).  Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writings skills (LSRW) are important for communication in general.  Achieving proficiency in these LSRW skills can help learner to achieve many things like cracking interviews, career building, going for higher education abroad and succeeding in global competition.  The present study focuses on the use of Artificial Intelligence in English Language Teaching. This theoretical paper explores the different AI tools useful for teaching English language, challenges faced during teaching and learning English.  Even the teacher readiness, teacher training, doing assessments using AI shall be discussed in the paper.  Technology offers many benefits even in the education sector, but there are problems, if both teachers and learners do not use the technology properly. Both while using technology for English language teaching and learning shall consider emotional and ethical issues.
