Abstract

The mounting environmental crisis caused by industrialization, urbanization, consumerism, and human negligence has emerged as one of the most pressing concerns of the modern world. While environmental issues are often debated through scientific and political perspectives, literature offers an exceptional emotional and psychological approach to ecological awareness. This article scrutinizes selected nature poems by William Wordsworth, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and Gieve Patel to explore how literature functions as an influential medium for nurturing environmental consciousness. Through their portrayal of nature's beauty, resilience, and vulnerability, these poets review humanity's exploitative attitude towards the natural world and lament the growing alienation between man and nature. The study highlights how poetry not only records ecological destruction but also encourages reflection, responsibility, and reverence for the environment. By presenting environmental degradation as a moral, emotional, and spiritual crisis, these literary works encourage readers to reconsider their relationship with nature and recognize the urgent need for ecological preservation.
