The researchers have globally revealed that the job satisfaction directly affected the employee’s presence, safety, turnover and productivity at work. Generally, a highly satisfied, physically and mentally fit employee is more productive at work. This empirical and comparative research is an attempt to evaluate the job satisfaction of employees at the Panipat Refinery & Petrochemical Complex (PRPC), a renowned public sector undertaking (PSU) unit of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The quantitative approach has been adopted and data has been collected through structured survey via simple random sampling technique among 320 employees, including permanent workmen (non-executives) and officers (executives). The organizational factors mainly considered for the assessment of job satisfaction are related to organizational culture, employee’s welfare, compensation & benefits, social security, work environment and opportunities for growth, grievance handling, etc. The collected data analyzed through rank correlation is found statistically significant and strong positive correlation (0.82) is identified between job satisfaction level of PRPC workmen & officers, with overall percentage satisfaction level (71.55 % for workmen & 71.91 for officers). The factor transport facilities scoring highest and canteen services scoring the lowest satisfaction level. No significant difference is identified between satisfaction level of workmen & officers, reported (t value = 0.86, p value=0.396). Recommendations include improvement in canteen services, children education, review of promotion policy and enhancement in training & development programs. etc.
