Arbitration, a cornerstone of private dispute resolution, is undergoing a transformative shift driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative technologies such as blockchain, augmented reality (AR), and predictive analytics. This article explores the multifaceted impact of these advancements, with a particular focus on India’s evolving arbitration framework under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act of 1996. AI streamlines processes like evidence management, legal research, and outcome prediction, enhancing efficiency and accessibility while reducing costs. Blockchain ensures secure, transparent award enforcement, and AR facilitates immersive virtual hearings. However, challenges such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the digital divide persist, necessitating robust regulatory frameworks. The article also examines the provocative question of AI arbitrators replacing humans, highlighting legal, practical, and ethical barriers. While hybrid models combining AI and human expertise offer a promising path, arbitration’s human foundation—rooted in trust and empathy-remains indispensable. Through global and Indian perspectives, this study underscores how technology can strengthen arbitration while preserving its core principles of fairness and inclusivity.
