Abstract

India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047, under the vision of Viksit Bharat, depends significantly on the strength and quality of its workforce. With one of the world’s youngest populations, India possesses a demographic advantage that can either become a catalyst for growth or a missed opportunity if not supported by adequate skills and training. This article examines the role of skill development and training in creating a competitive, adaptable, and inclusive workforce capable of meeting future economic challenges. It highlights the need for vocational education, industry-academia collaboration, digital skills, green competencies, and policy reforms. The paper argues that a robust skilling ecosystem is essential for improving productivity, fostering innovation, reducing unemployment, and ensuring equitable growth. It concludes that strategic investments in human capital will determine India’s success in achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
