A Study of Literary Devices in Akhlaq-e Mohseni

Abstract

This article examines the aesthetic aspects of Akhlaq-e Mohseni and the ways in which literary devices and rhetorical techniques are employed within it. The use of literary devices in the Persian (Dari) language and literature has undergone fluctuations across different historical periods over many centuries. These devices, whether verbal or semantic, enhance the literariness of discourse and increase the attractiveness, subtlety, and impact of the expression of poets and writers. Akhlaq-e Mohseni, a valuable work written by Mulla Husayn Vaeez Kashifi, is considered one of the outstanding examples of literary prose in which various literary devices have been employed with great skill and refinement. In this work, Kashifi particularly employs those devices that are more commonly used in prose in an artistic manner, thereby adding greater beauty, coherence, and effectiveness to his writing. The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the most important literary devices used in Akhlaq-e Mohseni and to examine their role in creating aesthetic value and enhancing the impact of the text. The research method adopted in this study is library-based; that is, the required data were first collected from written sources, including books, scholarly articles, and the primary text itself. The collected data were then organized and analyzed thematically and are presented accordingly. The findings of the study indicate that the deliberate and skillful use of literary devices in this work has played a significant role in enhancing its artistic and literary value.
